About Ric Ickard:
Richard Alcoy also known as Ric Ickard is a Naxos international recording artist, proficient in diverse music styles. He has often been featured artist at the Chet Atkins Convention in Nashville and was the headlining performer at the Philippine International Jazz Festival. Greatly influenced by the recordings of Chet Atkins, Andres Segovia, Roger Williams and Frank Wess, Ric taught himself at a very early age how to play the guitar, piano and flute. Before beginning formal studies, Ric performed his first guitar concert at the age of 17. Noticing Ric’s talent, St. Paul University of Manila awarded him a special scholarship that eventually earned him a degree in Music Education, with piano as his principal instrument. During graduation, the college presented him with its Special Award in Music Performance. Ric is also a recipient of the Philippine government scholarship in classical guitar and composition, and has won both the Classical and Pop guitar competitions of the Philippine Guitar Festival, presented by the Yamaha School of Music. Now based in Los Angeles, Ric continues pursuing his career in teaching, performing, and composing. As a veteran musician on cruise ships and five-star hotels, his vast repertoire generates demands for accompaniment from singers and soloists alike. He was named Instrumentalist of the Year 2017 by the Spotlight Awards in Los Angeles.
With all the music activities he undertake, results in a creative mind, which allow him to put into writing his musical ideas producing music literature available to clients around the world.
He exceeds excellent reviews on YouTube.
Ric advocates for the 7-string guitar, asserting that the added string expands the tonal range of the instrument, hence giving more concepts for richer arrangements and added playability.
