ANDY HUMAN & THE REPTOIDS - Tour Tape '16 - Video

DESCRIPTION:
Oh, excuse me, it’s clearly “Andy Human & Das Reptoids” now. The band’s officially been re-named, so all of you music news sites and pretentious bloggers better update your teat-suckling articles on this band before they jump on you for libel. Don’t think that they won’t; this band has their stuff up on Amazon.com, do you really think that they’d stand for that shit?

This is Andy Hymen & The—er, DAS Reptoids, a rock n’ roll group hailing for the slimy underbelly of Oakland, California. I wouldn’t be surprised if you’re already familiar with this group. I was completely unaware of how many waves these guys have made since I last touched their debut LP, which released back in mid-2015. I mean, look, they’ve got an article written on them up on Maximum Rocknroll, it’s not like they let a bunch of worthless no-name punks get some primetime up there—oh wait, thanks to their “New Blood” showcase, they totally do. But back to what I was saying: Randy Newman & The Reptiles have really made a name for themselves (multiple names, evidently) since they first surfaced from the sewers a little over a year ago. They’re blowin’ minds left and right, and for a damn good reason: they’re one of the most impressive bands to come out of Oakland in the recent past.

Yeah, I know, that may be seem like a bit of a contradictory statement for me to make, seeing that I’m the guy who said that The World was the best band to come out of Oakland, but the uninitiated may fail to realize that there’s actually a connection between these two bands: Andy Jordan, the very same Andy Human who’s also played in The Cuts, The Time Flys, Buzzer, and Lenz, also plays guitar in The World. But aside from that, I’m afraid I don’t have much in the ways of a background on this band; I made the mistake of not asking Andy about information when he contacted me eleven or so days ago. What came first, The World, or the egg that hatched The Reptoids? Seeing that The World didn’t release anything until 2016, I’m guessing the latter, but who knows, maybe the band sat in their practice space for a year. Sandy Subhuman & The Snakes are a four-piece, with Andy handling guitar and vocals, and a separate person making use out of a saxophone and synth on certain songs. Unfortunately, neither of those instruments are present in this newly-released tour tape (which will be sold throughout their upcoming tour that starts in two days: https://www.facebook.com/events/366031123520562/), though, as you’ve likely already noticed, it doesn’t detract at all from the huge impression that Candy Cumin & The Scalies are sure to leave on you.

[Jimmy's Note: Just got word that the group is now a three-piece, they dropped the sax. Maybe more synth in the future.]

This band has put out two separate releases prior to this seven-track tour tape, with those being their debut LP (that was recently uploaded on their Bandcamp in full) and a three-track 7” EP entitled “Sarcastic”, both of which being released by S-S and Goodbye Boozy Records in 2015 and 2016, respectively. And just last week, the two-toed scaley freaks and their human caretaker, Andy, vomited out their first tape, and damn, is it stunning. Here, the group sticks to playing the same brand of KBD punk rock n’ roll worship with slight poppy, jazz-like tinges, albeit with a more straight-forward delivery due to the simplified instrumentation; gone are the added tonality and accentuation from the saxophonist and synthesizer, which would be something to yearn for, if it wasn’t for the fact that these rockin' lo-fi melodies are beyond-satisfying on their own. The group’s music may not be as “mutant” or experimental as it has been in the past, yet it still manages to remain remarkably fresh: it’s hard to not find yourself become fully-invested in the wholesome, yet quirky rhythms that this group pounds out, utilizing discernible guitar distortion and vocal reverb to supplement an otherworldly sci-fi atmosphere that otherwise wouldn’t be as apparent. Every single one of these tracks—which are all entirely-new, might I add—are absolute hits, and I mean it. I’m completely and utterly swooned by both “Exist In Piss” and “Negative Balance, boasting highly-memorable, infectious rhythms that are bound to imprint themselves into your cerebral cortex after a single listen. This entire EP is so damn brilliant, I can’t recommend Danny Human & The Akroyds enough.

I have no idea what planet or irradiated sewer grate that The Reptoids emerged from, but I sincerely hope that they don’t go back home anytime soon: they’ve truly found their place here on the Earth’s surface as mutant rock n’ rollers.
