DESCRIPTION:
A DJ friendly edit of the extended mix sourced from digital wav file. Red Rockers were a post-punk/new wave band from New Orleans, Louisiana, active from 1979 to 1985. The band was fronted by guitarist/lead vocalist John Griffith, now with Cowboy Mouth. After some regional success they released a locally produced EP and were able to garner enough attention to earn a spot opening for the Clash during shows in Louisiana and Texas. They then recorded the album Condition Red and were soon signed to San Francisco label (Columbia sub-label) 415 records (Until December, Romeo Void, Wire Train, Translator.) Condition Red yielded scant commercial profit, but its enthusiastic reception greatly bolstered the confidence of the band's new managers at 415. The San Francisco recordmakers were considered one of the most important independent record labels of the time, and their favor would prove decisive. They assisted the band in relocating to California, and set upon drastically altering their musical style - new wave. The band toured heavily with their label colleagues and recorded the album "Good as Gold," which found instant success and was picked up by Columbia Records. Lead-off single "China" became a hit on the US music charts and the music video became a long-running staple on nascent MTV. In the three years following, the band released several singles and videos and another full length album, but split in late 1985. In 1990 Griffith co-founded New Orleans favorite pop-punk-rock-a-billy powerhouse live act, Cowboy Mouth with Fred LeBlanc and Paul Sanchez and would again find MTV success with the hit song Jenny Says.
