This Chinese folk music (North Shanxi area) was played by Oriental Breeze, a Chinese Music Band in Manchester, UK at the Chinese New Year Celebration Variety Show on 5 Feb. 2012.
This music piece was based on a folk song in Xin Tian You style, which is a type of folk music in north-west China, what local people called "The Ballads of the Mountains". The harsh and desolate natural environment in the north-west of China nourished the music. It is famous for its free-spiriting, resounding, and fearless romantic. The wild red lily in its full blooming season would decorate mountains with a bright red colour. Such a scene symbolises the characteristics of the people in the area.
