On February 9th, 1981, Evan Perez was born to an Irish mother and a Puerto Rican father. Exposed to hip-hop at an early age, MIZ was influenced by rap music from the very beginning. From Slick Rick and Run-DMC, to Wu-tang and Nas, MIZ loved rap music. Shaped by his surroundings and his experiences, MIZ is hip-hop.

After a troubled childhood in New Jersey, his mother who had recently separated from his father decided to move him and his younger brother to Washington State where her brother lived. The year was 1996.

This was an instant culture shock for MIZ and he found it very hard to adjust to his new setting. This caused MIZ to start getting into some trouble. After getting kicked out of

one school after the other it eventually all came to a head when MIZ got picked up on an attempted burglary charge. Being that he was still a minor and this was his 1st offense, MIZ luckily escaped without any jail time. MIZ knew he needed to find something to fill up his spare time, hip-hop would fill that void.

Just like most other rappers, MIZ started out freestylin’ then eventually advanced to writing full songs. After a few failed attempts at being part of a group MIZ decided he needed to focus on being a solo artist. It was time to go back to New Jersey.

In December of 2000, MIZ went back to New Jersey where he would really start to get serious about his music career. MIZ grinded hard for about 4 years, networking with the other local artists in the area just trying to make a name for himself. Then in 2004 he dropped his 1st mixtape, “The Family Affair”. This mixtape would go on to move about 3,500 copies and became a classic in his hometown of Perth Amboy.

During this time MIZ’ father had died and he decided he would move back to Washington to be close to his mother again. Shortly after returning to the Evergreen State, MIZ met other local talent such as S.P. and UnCommon, which would later lead to the formation of the rap collective, “The Real Life Click” or the “RLC”.

In 2007 the RLC signed an independent record deal with Hi Rollerz Records out of Portland, OR, MIZ is currently working on the RLC Compilation album as well as a new RLC mixtape.

In the meantime, you can check MIZ out on the Coast2Coast mixtape series doing his thing, as well as two guest appearances on S.P.’s upcoming album, “The Appreciation of…” coming out February ‘08 on Hi Rollerz Records.
