“Education is not only the key to success, but it’s literally the key to a better way of life and is something that can never be taken away from you.”
DJ B-Mello is one of the most well rounded and respected DJs in the world. He was a pioneer in the mixtape game distributing his street-level mixtapes worldwide which soon gave him his break in radio. He got his start and had a 17 year run on Seattle’s KCMU/KEXP spinning and hosting the legendary hip hop shows “Rap Attack” and “Streetsounds”. B-Mello is currently mixing 5 nights a week on Seattle’s #1 rated KUBE 93. In addition to KUBE, B was simultaneously holding down mixshow duties on KXJM in Portland, Oregon as well as SHADE 45 on Sirius/XM Satellite Radio. This grind and notoriety lead to him being voted WESTCOAST DJ OF THE YEAR and he received his award during The 9th Annual Power Summit in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
A veteran battle, mixtape, and party deejay, he has opened up for many major Hip Hop groups, including 50 Cent, T.I., Outkast, E-40, Ludacris, Akon, The Roots, Nas, Run DMC, De La Soul, and Common just to name a few. B-Mello was a West Coast DMC finalist competing against Shortkut, Babu, Melo-D, Rhettmatic, and other amazing turntablists. He won the DJ Soundwar in Canada (judged by Q-Bert). He also has judged high profile battles for ITF, Freestyle Sessions, Guitar Center, and for the DMC regional and finals in both the U.S and Canada. His services have also been enlisted by the Seattle Mariners and Storm and DJ B-Mello currently is the official DJ for the UW Huskies and spins in the ZONE during home games.
B’s knack for reading a crowd has always made him one of the top club & party DJs and he has showcased his talents around the world in venues and radio stations. He was also honored by being cast as a character in the SCARFACE video game along with other actors & music professionals. People lie, but numbers don’t: The social networking site Myspace.com named DJ B-Mello an official Myspace DJ and he currently has a fanbase/network of 151,000 friends and he has gained over a million plays and views. He also has more than 850,000 views of his videos on Youtube and Myspace. His Twitter following is at 9,500 as of November, 2010. His personal Facebook page skyrocketed to 4,500 friends when he decided to open it up to the public and has recently started a DJ B-Mello page which has over 1200 “Likes”.
His history in hip hop began really early at the age of 12 as a b-boy and his accolades are incredible. He’s been featured in many magazines such as VIBE, The Source, XXL, Rap Sheet and his professional resume is very extensive all pertaining to hip hop. He’s been a club/event/radio DJ, a radio personality, a journalist/music editor, as well as handles promotions and marketing for music, movies, & other products targeted towards urban lifestyles as well as the mainstream masses. B-Mello has been featured in music videos, on records, & has also lectured and demonstrated the art of deejaying and the History of the Hip Hop deejay at the University of Washington, Seattle Art Museum, and at Seattle’s Experience Music Project to name a few.
B-Mello has some seriously major affiliations - The Core DJs, a collaboration of heavy DJs from across the country headed up by Tony Neal with such members as The Baka Boyz, Green Lantern, Clinton Sparks, Big Tigger, & Kid Capri. The Core is a foundation and is more like a family than a DJ coalition. Shadyville DJs, which is G-Unit’s own DJ Whoo Kid’s crew of national and internationally known DJs making waves in radio & mixtapes which has such members as DJ E-Rock, DJ Noodles, Tim Westwood etc, last, but not least he got his start in NRC, a national turntablist crew that was founded by producer Just Blaze, and is headed up by DJ A.P. of AV8 Records fame. One of the hottest artist in the Northwest Eighty4 Fly sought out the DJ skills of B-Mello and he became his official DJ.
Current mixtape projects are E-Dawg “The Plan Before The Retirement Plan” Vol. 1 & 2, Logics “Clarity”, & Eighty4 Fly “1stClass In FlyWorld” which have received over 100,000 downloads this year. Be on the lookout for “Real Big” hosted by Fatman Scoop & more.
