Ralph "Soul" Jackson - Set Me Free - Black Kat - Video
PUBLISHED:  Oct 08, 2015
DESCRIPTION:
Crazy About Crossover?
Here’s one of the finest examples of the genre & it’s the authentic ORIGINAL FIRST PRESS!
This under-recorded artist who captured the young Soul-Boys imagination in the late 60s when his eye-catching name appeared on his one and only British release on Atlantic.
This Alabama session at the famous plumbers basement studio of Neal Hemphill just drips with SOUL no matter which side you drop the arm on.
“Set Me Free” is a lush, flowing self-penned late 70s recording ignoring all the commercial influences of the era; giving up that pure-soul dance music in the long tradition of the studio which now enjoys Soul-folklore status..
Yes “Set Me Free” is one hell of a soulful-dance production but the flipside made the hairs on my neck bristle.. truly awesome and begging for a “Soul Essence” wet Saturday afternoon airing. Again straight from the talented Mr. Jackson’s pen, the man grabs hold of his lyrics and serves an anguished performance.. at times sounding a little like Herman Hitson oozing with despair as he begs to be “taken Back”
Truly awesome, this is Southern Soul at it’s most-compelling..
Two essential sides of the proper-stuff!
There are some fine hairline surface blemisahes but as you can hear both of these brilliant siodes play clean & true
