(Lyrics and info below.) Christy-Lyn at 9 years singing "Rabbits" at the Cape Town singing Eisteddfod in April 1998.

SONG INFORMATION:
Music by Helen Deacon, words anonymous. According to a thread on mudcat.org (see link below), the poem was written by Georgia Roberts Durston, an American poet and author of children's book. Information on boards.ancestry.com (see link below) states that Georgia Roberts Durston was from Charleston, West Virginia and died around 1955. She wrote a book called "Candlelight" for her daughter Georgia Roberts Durston Frankenberger and a book called "Boy Scouts on the Trail" -- a mystery book about Boy Scouts. According to hopeeternal's blog post (see below)"she was a ghostwriter for the 24 volume 'Boy Scouts' series, published by Saalfield between 1912 and 1919. The fictional author of these books was Colonel George Durston, who was also credited with the authorship of various American series books. She was married to Alfred Tennyson Durston".

LYRICS:
There was once a rabbit
Developed the habit,
Of twitching the end of his nose.
His sisters and brothers
And various others
Said, "Notice the way that it goes".

And one clever bunny
Said, "That's very funny,
I'll practise it down in the dell".
The rest said, "If he can,
I'm positive we can".
And did it remarkably well.

And now the world over,
Where rabbits eat clover,
And burrow and scratch with their toes,
There isn't a rabbit,
Who hasn't the habit,
Of twitching the end of his nose.
