Brian Jackson Fetzer is an instructor of the arts of songs and stories at the University of Utah and an associate instructor of mathematics at the Salt Lake Community College. He is the author of many technical writings as well as several collections of literary works and songs. He also works as an art specialist in the Salt Lake City School District.
He has recorded seventeen albums to date with his first record, as mentioned, being "Good Times on my Mind" in 1975. These include collections of songs artistically portraying the happenings of these times, appearing in his "Signature Album" as well as a recording capturing the transcendent beauties of Christmas time in his "The Shepherd's Born." Brian has written and directed two shows for Abravanel Hall, called "Lady in the Harbor" and "The Great American Idea." As was alluded to earlier he has written much for radio and performed on many radio stations and appeared on television magazines as well as in television commercials. Much of his production work has been showcased on this medium. He received special recognition from the 1995 music contest of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for his song "Bethlehem Merchant" that has, in many circles, proven itself as an enduring part of the Christmas tradition, having been premiered in the Salt Lake Tabernacle on Temple Square, and since that time performed in a Christmas show at the Aladdin Hotel in Las Vegas, and other prominent halls. In Utah, these performances include those in Abravanel Hall during several Christmas seasons. This song with full chorus and orchestra has also been broadcast on PBS television nationally. On September 14, 1995 Mr. Fetzer was invited to appear on the Campus of the University of Utah to perform some of his writings and after this occasion has been invited to perform his poetry at The Barnes and Noble Book Stores as well as to be featured on University Campuses nationally. In 1996 Brian took a position with the Salt Lake School District helping students to develop more proficiency in the English Language at Dilworth Elementary and Beacon Heights Elementary. In 1997 Brian returned to the University of Utah for more post-graduate work and at present is working on several publications of technical writings as he continues to teach at the University level. In the summer of 1998 Brian released his first compact disk, "When You Reach Out, Reach Up" simultaneously in Atlanta Georgia and Salt Lake City. This recording won the first place recognition and cash award in an international competition sponsored by the Composers Guild of Utah in their popular music category.
