DESCRIPTION:
I made a pilgrimage to visit Stacy Sutherland, guitarist of the 13th Floor Elevators, at his grave in Center Point, Texas, outside Kerrville. I serenaded the man with "I Had To Tell You", written by Roky Erickson and Clementine Hall, from the Elevators' 1967 album Easter Everywhere, which was supposedly a favorite of his. During the filming, my girlfriend at the time experienced a pain in her stomach (where Stacy was fatally wounded in 1978) and felt a sudden sadness, although she knew little about his life and nothing of the circumstances of his death before that day. The wind (and more) really kicked up as I began singing. Strange goings on in Center Point, indeed. Lots of love to Stacy and the Sutherland family.
