A "pianist of rare musicality" (Claude Gingras, La Presse, Montreal), Durval Cesetti completed his D.Mus., M.Mus., and B.Mus. degrees at McGill University, where he studied with Kyoko Hashimoto, Tom Plaunt, Richard Raymond, Louis-Philippe Pelletier, and Eugene Plawutsky. His articles have been published at The Musical Times, the Latin American Music Review (edited by the University of Texas Press), and Música Hodie. Before starting his current position as Professor of Piano at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte (Natal, Brazil), Durval Cesetti was an instructor at McGill University and at the University of Windsor, besides working as a collaborative pianist for students of the University of Western Ontario. Some of his recent performances include recitals in China (one of these at Beijing's National Center for the Performing Arts), a Chopin-Szymanowski program performed at the University of Limerick (Ireland) and at Brasília's National Theater, sponsored by the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Brazil, a recital of Brazilian music sponsored by the Consulate-General of Brazil in Toronto, several concerts in Natal collaborating with international artists such as violinist Annette-Barbara Vogel, clarinetist António Saiote, cellist Darrett Adkins, soprano Martha Sheil, and tenor Stefano Algieri, besides appearances as a soloist with the Orquestra Sinfônica do Rio Grande do Norte, with a student orchestra from the Université de Montréal (both conducted by André Muniz), and with the Société de musique contemporaine du Québec, under the direction of Jean-Michaël Lavoie.

Artigos seus foram publicados pelo periódico britânico The Musical Times, pelo Latin American Music Review (editado pela University of Texas Press) e pelo Música Hodie. Antes de iniciar sua posição atual como professor da Escola de Música da UFRN, Durval Cesetti lecionou na McGill University e na University of Windsor, além de ter trabalhado como pianista colaborador para alunos da University of Western Ontario. Concertos recentes incluem recitais na China (um destes no "National Center for the Performing Arts" de Pequim), um programa de obras de Chopin e Szymanowski na University of Limerick (Irlanda) e no Teatro Nacional Cláudio Santoro, patrocinado pela Embaixada da República da Polônia no Brasil, um recital de música brasileira patrocinado pelo Consulado-Geral do Brasil em Toronto, recitais do Duo Riedel-Cesetti, formado com a soprano Elke Riedel, diversos recitais em Natal colaborando com artistas internacionais como a violinista Annette-Barbara Vogel, o clarinetist António Saiote, o violoncelista Darrett Adkins, a soprano Martha Sheil e o tenor Stefano Algieri, além de apresentações como solista com uma orquestra de alunos da Université de Montréal, com a Orquestra Sinfônica do Rio Grande do Norte (ambas regidas pelo maestro André Muniz) e com a Société de musique contemporaine du Québec, sob a direção de Jean-Michaël Lavoie.
