DESCRIPTION:
My favorite song is always the one I'm writing, so this is my favorite song right now: brand new and still settling into place. I was in the middle of writing another song, and having trouble with the lyrics. Basically, I need to be Gerry Goffin or Hal David or Oscar Hammerstein to pull it off. Still working on that one. Meanwhile, this one just sort of arrived effortlessly.
Primitive iPhone recording, as you can tell.
IN AN EMPTY ROOM
In an empty room
Where the cat's alone
Wait, I'm with her too, I'm here as well
Sitting very still
As still as furniture
In fact I'm furniture she's sitting on
And nothing is resolved
Nothing will work out
This is where my new life starts
With failure and regret
Bafflement and doubt
Just give up, give up, friend
It's over, it's the end
Just give up, learn and start again
[Music]
Where was I?
Oh yeah
In an empty room
Where the cat's alone
Wait, I'm with her too, I'm here as well
Sitting very still
As still as furniture
In fact I'm furniture she's sitting on
And nothing is resolved
Nothing will work out
This is where my new life starts
With failure and regret
Bafflement and doubt
Just give up, give up friend
It's over, it's the end
You're out of ideas, then
And that's good news at last
So breathe, release the past
Just breathe, release the past
And this is where your new life starts
In an empty room
