Scarce MAGNAVOX "The Playfellow" Model #TP255MA - 3 Speed Record Player - Video
PUBLISHED:  Feb 27, 2013
DESCRIPTION:
Here's a Magnavox you don't see every day. This is a rather scarce model made in 1955 as a tabletop carry case 3-speed record player. It's very heavy as it's made with wood & it's quite large as well. This features a 3-speed changer made by Webcor as shown in the video. It's a very smooth changer with a trailing arm to size up the records & drop the record arm to the correct start on the record. This player really sounds magnificent!! It features a pair of 6L6's feeding a pair of (I believe) 6" round speakers. This is NOT stereo! It's strictly monaural. There was something about the look of the unit that fascinated me enough to want it. I have 2 other Magnavox's in my videos - both with RCA 45 changers & AM radio combos. They, too, are scarce & hard to find. This cabinet shares the same "look" and painting scheme as the other 2 Maggies in my collection.

This is a cool player that's just not often found or seen. I'm sure it was rather expensive when it was new. Understand that stereo players were just making their debut which may have hampered the sales on this model. I hope you've enjoyed seeing this vintage piece of 50's history!!
