The Blue Lyres (at the Dorchester Hotel, London) - My Silent Love - 1932 - Video
PUBLISHED:  Sep 30, 2014
DESCRIPTION:
Though the Blue Lyres was the name given to a band directed by Arthur Lally which played in the ballroom of London's Dorchester Hotel between 1931 and 1932, the Zonophone records issued under this name are actually by Ambrose and his Orchestra without the violin trio present on their HMV recordings. The Rolls-Royce of British dance bands is heard here at the apex of their powers with a striking and urbane treatment of this depression-era tune. Vocal by Sam Browne, pictured in an early-30's signed photograph from my collection.
