I Don't Work For a Living - Three Times Through - Video

DESCRIPTION:
I Don't Work for a Living
Jeff first heard this song on the First of Autumn album by Malcolm Dalglish & Grey Larsen. Malcolm picked it up from Jimmy Cooper of Airdrie, Scotland. I have always thought of it as a Scottish song but have found some Irish reference. True folk tradition... There is a different version of I Don't Work for a Living which was copyrighted in 1929 by Shapiro, Bernstein and Company or New York City. After a bit of research I found a copy that shows Mullen/Freeman as the songwriters, possibly early 20th century? Seems to be a lot references to fathers or grandfathers. References all over the internet to people who will tell you that "my grandfather sang that song all the time..."

I also found a list of recordings at a Fresno State Folklore project website.
