Bratislava-born Peter Machajdík is a composer of a wide range of chamber, orchestral, electronic and multimedia works. His music has been performed in various venues across Europe, America, and Asia, and has been featured in festivals such as Inventionen in Berlin, New Work in Calgary, Early Music Festival in Boston, LakeComo Festival, Nuovi Spazi Musicali in Rome, Young Euro Classic in Berlin, Hörgänge at the Konzerthaus in Vienna, Bolzano Festival 2016, Sagra Musicale Malatestiana in Rimini, Kauniainen Music Festival and Hauho Music Festival in Finland, Audio Art Festival in Cracow, Contrasts in Lviv, Ostrava Music Days, Kotor Art Festival, Sound City Days, Melos-Ethos Festival, and the Bratislava Music Festival. He has worked with orchestras and ensembles such as the Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra, the I.J.Paderewski State Philharmonic Orchestra, Berg Orchestra, the Slovak Chamber Orchestra, the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra, Camerata Europea, the Luhansk Symphony Orchestra, Cluster Ensemble, Prague Modern, Quasars Ensemble, Agon Orchestra, Mucha Quartet, Ensemble Ricercata, Arte Quartett, and soloists such as harpists Floraleda Sacchi and Klára Bábel, clarinetists Guido Arbonelli and Martin Adámek, organists Carson Cooman and David di Fiore, cellists John Alex Heley, Piero Salvatori and Jozef Lupták, harpsichordist Elina Mustonen, and accordionist Boris Lenko to name just a few. He has also composed scores for feature films and documentaries, theatre and radio plays. Current projects include commissions from Ensemble Metamorphosis, violin virtuoso Milan Paľa, as well as a commission to create a sound-based artwork for the Belianska Cave in the High Tatra mountains. Once one of the central figures in the avant-garde and contemporary music scene in former Czechoslovakia for over 25 years, Peter Machajdík has been awarded a 1992 DAAD artist residency in Berlin, a 2011 International Visegrad Fund individual artist grant, and the Ján Levoslav Bella Composition Prize. His œuvre, often hailed as soothing, has a human, moral and ethical dimension, rejecting and condemming xenophobia, racism and extremism.
