Legendary percussionist Pet Escovedo and his all-star band open the 2014 Jazz at LACMA season. Escovedo is an artist who broke down the barriers between jazz, salsa, Latin jazz, and contemporary music industry for more than 50 years. Escovedo began his career in the 1970's with Carlos Santana and has performed and toured with many artists, including Herbie Hancock, Mongo Santamaria, Bobby McFerrin, Cal T jader, Al Jarreau, Arturo Sandoval, Poncho Sanchez, Chick Corea and Tito Puente. At this inaugural performance for 2014 Jazz at LACMA, Pete Escovedo Latin Jazz Orchestra pays tribute to his friend and colleague George Duke, who passed away last year.
