DESCRIPTION:
Cyril Tawney (1930-2005) was an English singer-songwriter, specialising in the traditional songs of the West of England and songs of the sea. He was a full-time professional folksinger for 45 years, a record in Britain.
One of his best-known songs is "Sally Free and Easy" though this one is also quite popular. It is sung here by Dave Ellis at a session of The Hong Kong Folk Society at The Canny Man in Wanchai.
Lyrics:
Too soon to be out of bed,
Too soon to be doing this bus stop caper,
With a cigarette and a picture paper,
On a Monday morning.
Where has the weekend gone?
Where is the wine and the beer I've tasted?
Gone to hell like the pay I've wasted,
On a Monday morning.
If only the birds were booze,
If only the sun was a party giver,
And somebody else could have my liver,
On a Monday morning.
My lover, she lies asleep,
My lover, she has a heart so mellow,
I'd give all the world to share her pillow,
On a Monday morning.
Lyrics and chords of many of my songs are no longer available, as my website has expired. I am currently posting lyrics to the information panels on all my videos and those that are too long to post in full will be found on my new website: https://raymondsfolkpage.wordpress.com
