Frankie Laine - That Lucky Old Sun (1957) - Video
PUBLISHED:  Oct 10, 2016
DESCRIPTION:
This 1957 re-recording of Frankie's 1949 #1 hit is, in my estimation, the most definitive version of the song. Although the original hit may have been a bit restrained comparably, Frankie, with the aid of the Paul Weston Orchestra, deliver a powerful and emotional performance in this remake. It was originally released on the 1957 album, "Rockin'". Frankie's first recording was the most popular in 1949, but other competing records by Vaughn Monroe, Frank Sinatra, Sarah Vaughan, Louis Armstrong, Bob Houston and Herb Lance and the Classics also met varying degrees of success. Charting remakes include: #20 Billboard Hot 100 for Ray Charles in 1963/1964 (#10 Adult Contemporary, #5 R&B), #129 Bubbling Under for Solomon Burke in 1969, #66 Country for Nat Stuckey in 1978 and #56 Country for Kenny Chesney (with Willie Nelson) in 2008.
