A Halo Ballad: "Dust & Echoes" - Hot Fuzz Fantastic, feat. Patrick Dunn - Video
PUBLISHED:  Sep 30, 2014
DESCRIPTION:
"Dust & Echoes" written by Patrick Dunn & HFF
Guest vocalist Patrick Dunn
Additional Guitar by Larry Jennings, Jr.

I met Pat and Larry playing Halo 2 on the original Xbox. Ten years later, we're still friends, and we wanted to celebrate the game's anniversary in our own unique way.

We ping-ponged this song across the country, recording it in three states, in bits and pieces, until it was ready for your ears. My band, the Hot Fuzz Fantastic, provided the backing track. Master Chief and Cortana provided the inspiration. Here's to another decade.

- Gordon, HFF's other guitarist

If we were set adrift in space
A thousand years from home
Would you know that I'd be smiling
Behind my visored dome?
As you'd watch me fade away
With no air left to breathe
When all that's left is dust and echoes
Will you still remember me?
The way I am today...

If I made you a promise
One you knew I couldn't keep
Would you let me keep pretending
That I'm a hero to you?
Beside an open Grave
And a madness lightly quelled
Though I'm too far away to catch you
When you fall beneath its spell

Your visage hovers like a phantom
And your thoughts are in my head;
Would you find the time to mourn me?
Would you care if I were dead?

If you woke me from a dreamless sleep
Still adrift in space
Would you let me see you smile, once
Though you never had a face?
Like the whispers of the guardians
Across the cosmic sea,
though there's a universe between us now,
It never felt that way to me.
And though you never had a body
That could fail, as bodies do
Now you're only dust and echoes
But I still remember you-
The way you were that day.

And I will find you.
And I will bring you home.
