Patchwork! PSYCHEDELIC JOURNEY Mourning Glory Jam - Video
PUBLISHED:  Sep 20, 2013
DESCRIPTION:
Recently unearthed live audio of Mourning Glory playing "Patchwork" live in Dayton at ICB recording studios, accompanying rare photos from the group's psychedelic heydey! The group was formed out of the ashes of the southern Ohio jam band 4D2Zero. Upon its dissolution Ryan Henry and Chris Bingman aka "Rolling Thunder & Little Lightning" teamed up as the groups legendary rhythm section joining Nate McPeek and Chris Bonham (4D2Zero). The group performed together, and as a trio (sans Bonham or Bingman) in the Dayton, Yellow Springs, and Columbus area for just a couple of years around the turn of the century. The band described themselves as "Psychedelic Funk", and delivered with driving rhythm and spacey guitar solos, perfectly balancing the subtle lyricism in McPeek's softer ballads. In press reviews Mourning Glory has been compared to Grand Funk Railroad among others, and was described as "the best thing to come out of Ohio since corn."
Word spread quickly about the band, whose ability to directly communicate their hippie ideals to audiences threatened the status quo of the day. It is widely believed that the group was undermined by the CIA through the use of subversive tactics learned in the MK-ULTRA experiments of the 60s, however many dismiss this as mere speculation insisting that the band's downfall was self-inflicted. Sadly, Mourning Glory could not stand the strain and self-imploded on the very cusp of stardom.
There have been rumors circulating for years of a Mourning Glory reunion amidst the jam-scene crowd, but this may be no more than mere pipe-dreams...
