Pipeline 2012 - Passive Music Listeners - Video
PUBLISHED:  Oct 30, 2012
DESCRIPTION:
Studies have shown that the majority of music consumers are passive, meaning they don't actively seek out new music. In this study, the effects passive music listeners have had on the market for recorded music are presented, especially when looking at the consumption of digital music and the decline of revenue from recorded music over the past decade. The need for digital music technologies like Internet radio and streaming services to better serve passive music consumers is realized. Finally, an innovative new service is presented that would provide recommendations for passive music listeners using song identification technology, measurement of vital signs in health service equipment, and computer song-recommendation algorithms.

How might we better serve the passive listener and eventually turn them into active music consumers?
