From the upcoming album Belgrade Tapes:

The band Oskar Schönning came into being at a club called Nardis sometime June of 2002, in the town of Östersund, Sweden. Nardis had been founded by Oskar and some of his friends, allowing for spontaneous projects and groups to get together and perform their music. This, one must mention, would not have been possible without Ingrid Persson at Ett Rum och Kök. The club housed everything from bands like Kampus and Nyfors with their punk-like delivery, to the sounds of jazz veterans Krister Andersson and Lasse Hörnfeldt.

The "embryo" of this group came about through a project Oskar and Emil Strandberg set in motion named Heroes and Villains, combining their respective instruments of bass and trumpet with an array of electronics. They were joined on one piece by dobro player Anders Kronlund and in the course of that number understood that this was meant to become a trio. About a year later the group reassembled, having allowed for that passage / occurrence of time which brings about the seeds and birth of new songs. This time they were to record (live at Nardis), leading to the very rare release of Oskar Schönning's first EP entitled Heroes and Villains.

In the summer of 2003, drummer Sebastian Voegler and pianist Jonas Östholm were to hear the trio, and soon joined as members of the progressively growing orchestra. By now almost all it's members were residing in Stockholm. This was the group to record Oskar Schönning's second EP entitled Love Songs. Several concerts were done with this constellation, and in late fall of that year saxophonist Nils Berg joined the band to play clarinets and harmonica. The debut album on BonnieraAmigo was released 2004. Another EP called Subsoil, was released in 2005 and the second longplayer Happy jazz, please was released the third of May 2006.

More music has been written and recorded during 2007. One two-track double single was released in march 2007, Puerto was released 2008 and the fourth full length-album Belgrade Tapes will be released 1st of March 2010.
