DESCRIPTION: The Opiate Mass is a group of Seattle artists (from various churches) who come together for beautiful performances of original (or originally arranged) music, accompanied by visual art and liturgical readings. The group's name is a nod both to the Christian liturgical form and to Karl Marx's assessment that religion—or faith or prayer or music or art or worship—are mere opiates for the masses.
musicians: Lacey Brown (drumkit) Kay Lambert (cello) Ryan Davis (bass) Mark Mohrlang (guitar) Joel Eby (synthesizer) Matt Chism (percussion) Zadok Wartes (voice, percussion) Tara Ward (voice)
