Ogun Pleas was Born on the Southside of Chicago at Michael Reese hospital. His named is pronounced Ogun (ogoon). The Gun at a young age was built for and raised in drama. The son of Black Panthers Gun grew up in the Hilliard Projects, but moved from place to place around the Chicago’s south side. Life for the Gun has been a struggle, Gun a teenage father with no monetary support from his father struggled from day one, despite the monetary harshness Gun was loved and able to succeed in school. Gun graduated from High School in three years at the age 17 he was a head coach of a traveling AAU 13 and under Basketball Team. Gun then left home and attended college at Southern Illinois University. After attending SIUE for 3 semesters in which Gun was the basketball teams head manager Gun was forced to leave school. Gun went home and saw his girl give birth to his son. Gun took care of his son and began to take the steps to attend college again. Gun then enrolled at Parkland College a junior college on the campus of the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign. In Gun’s second year at U of I his life changed with the unforeseen passing of his mother. Gun’s mother was the source of his life’s his inspiration and his back bone. “I was lost, but when I found Hip Hop and I just claimed Hip Hop music as mine, this was my calling and the hip hop lifestyle was my culture.” Getting his first ASR in 1996 Gun began making tracks with a crew called the Jus Us League. This affiliation proved to be rewarding for Gun as he became submerged in the art of Hip Hop music and culture. Gun began producing, writing, and rapping on numerous underground classic albums. All these albums were done independent and for the love of Hip Hop culture and music. Gun bitten by the Hip Hop culture and music bug began to want to expand his horizons. Gun started moving forward towards starting a professional career in the music business. Gun left school at The University Of Illinois Urbana Champaign and went back to Chicago and found a job working for a marketing firm that handled national record label accounts. Gun is still passionate about his music and began working with local Chicago artist and hooked with a guy named Danny S and formed Thirsty Cambodian Entertainment. The duo of Gun and Danny S then went into the studio and starting making albums and performing at local and national venues. Gun is a father and proud caretaker of Hip Hop music and culture. Gun’s production and writing can only be described as “grimey,” “straight guttah.” Gun’s production is influenced by his upbringing and his love for soul, jazz, and seventies rock music. �I think music is an extension of a person and there surrounding, no one ever tells a story the same and that is what makes music so unique.” Gun is influenced by the greats of the music industry like Floyd, Sade, Biggie, Pac, Bumps Blackwell, Eric Davis, Joe Sample, Bob James, Marvin Gaye, Dr. Dre, RZA, Wu Tang, No ID and lots of other musicians. “There are too many to name but they all are heavy influences on my style and overall production sound.”
