Odio - Un Mondo Libero Dall'Uomo 7" EP (2016) - Video
PUBLISHED:  May 27, 2016
DESCRIPTION:
Debut vinyl release from Oakland, CA band Odio on Nightrider Records, and it's a total bruiser! Another American band with cover art by Japanese artist Sugi! However, unlike the Burning Spirit genre as heard on the Zero record also out this year, Odio seems to borrow from the more raw side of Japanese hardcore. With catchy riffs and pounding pogo beats, there seems to be influence from bands like Zouo, Gai, and G-Gas. But rather than adopting the noisy, lo-fi fizz that is common with these Japanese bands, the recording Odio got on this record is sonically huge and powerful. Even though a majority of these songs are driving and fist-pumping all the way through, there are also moments that provide a sense of dark atmosphere in the sound of this record. Drummer Giacomo, whom I became familiar with playing in Tørsö, is from Italy and is likely resposible for providing the band's name and the title of the record. "Odio" translates to "hatred" in English, and the title of this EP translates to "a world free of man". There's obviously some pissed, misanthropic vibes going on with this band, and I'm all for it. Killer record.
