Somewhere between dream and play, where the song meets the divertissement, there lives Le Gros Ballon, a highly cinematic musical project. Starting from pure improvisation and using any sort of instrument or object, Le Gros Ballon creates a free music that surprises and excites. It's like being on board a balloon flying among the clouds.

“We use any kind of instrument or object to not just play music, but play with music.”

This is the idea behind Le Gros Ballon, instrumental project that Francesco Campanozzi and Marco Capra started in the summer of 2008 in Milan, Italy. All of their music originates from pure improvisation and goes in search of the amusing and exciting, on a musical journey aboard an imaginary balloon (“le gros ballon”).

With their unusual sound Le Gros Ballon draws the attention of critics in Italy and abroad, earning comparisons to the likes of Cinematic Orchestra, Sigur Ros, Kings of Convenience and Yann Tiersen. The press calls them “unique”, “talented and visionary”.

Their multifaceted and cinematic style gets them involved in motion pictures too. Le Gros Ballon’s music is chosen on a number of soundtracks, most recently for a series of documentaries on the city of Milan for the World Expo 2015.

After 2 albums and 2 EPs, the journey now continues with a new
"Cinefoumatic”, out on April 12, 2016.
