Rey Pila se formó en la Ciudad de México en 2010.
El cuarteto (Diego Solorzano, Andrés Velasco, Rodrigo Blanco y Miguel Hernández), se enfoca en los sintetizadores impulsados por el dance-rock.
El importante medio NME dice que "suenan como si hubieran sido criados con una dieta de The Cars, David Bowie y Kraftwerk". En 2012 se mudan Nueva York para comienzar a trabajar en su segundo álbum dentro de DFA Studios (hogar de LCD Soundsystem).
Fue entonces cuando Julian Casablancas se enganchó con el track "Alexander" y los firmó en su sello Cult Records. El cantante de Strokes produjo tres canciones en 'The Future Sugar', que finalmente emergió en 2015. Rey Pila salió a la carretera con Interpol, The Rentals y Brandon Flowers y tomó un enfoque de "menos es más" para su último EP, 'Wall of Goth '(2017), también coproducido por Casablancas y Shawn Everett. Este EP llevó a Rey Pila a una gira sudamericana con The Voidz, que culminó con un espectáculo de titulares agotados en Plaza Condesa, Ciudad de México.
En 2018, Rey Pila lanzó una versión de la canción de Siouxie y The Banshees, "Israel", y abrió los shows de Global Spirit Tour de la Ciudad de México de Depeche Mode.

Rey Pila formed in Mexico City in 2010 – their name means King Battery in Spanish. The quartet (Diego Solorzano, Andrés Velasco, Rodrigo Blanco & Miguel Hernández), specializes in synth-driven dance-rock – NME says they “sound like they were raised on a diet of The Cars, David Bowie and Kraftwerk.” In 2012 they relocated to New York City and started work on its second album at DFA Studios (home of LCD Soundsystem). That's when Julian Casablancas was hooked by their song “Alexander” and signed them to his Cult Records label. The Strokes singer produced three tracks on 'The Future Sugar,' which finally emerged in 2015. Rey Pila hit the road with Interpol, the Rentals, and Brandon Flowers and took a “less is more” approach to their latest EP, 'Wall of Goth,’ (2017) also co-produced by Casablancas and Shawn Everett. This EP took Rey Pila on a South-American tour with The Voidz, which was capped off with a sold-out headline show in Plaza Condesa, Mexico City.
In 2018, Rey Pila released a cover of Siouxie and The Banshees's song, "Israel", and opened Depeche Mode's Global Spirit Tour Mexico City shows.
