"When the Bond film "Goldeneye" was in production, the producers approached the Rolling Stones and asked them if they would consider writing and recording the theme song for the movie. The track would have been called "Goldeneye". I thought this was a great suggestion - two English icons coming together - the Stones and Bond. Mick and Keith obviously felt a bit differently about the matter and never did the track.
When Lionel Dekanel approached me with the idea of his James Bond tribute album, my immediate thought was to record a version of Paul McCartney's sublime "Live and Let Die". Better thoughts prevailed and I decided to try and recreate what the Stones could have come up with if they had accepted the commission.
It seemed to work...
