NIFELHEIM was formed in 1990 by TYRANT (bestial holocaust bass/guitar), DEMON (pounding disaster drums) and HELLBUTCHER (death vomit vocals). Soon they were also joined by guitarist MORBID SLAUGHTER and hellish orgies of drunken debauchery and deviant behaviour sometimes were interrupted with rehearsals.

This was a period when METAL was plagued by bands with big hair singing happy tunes about riding cars and meeting women. This caused NIFELHEIM to start writing lyrics about the joys of necrophaelia, corpophagia and sodomy to music that was anything but atmospherical.

Around New Years 92/93 the band made their first recording and released the legendary landmark of metal - "UNHOLY DEATH DEMO". Reviewers were shocked and listeners everywhere wondered who these hounds of hell might be? The flag of metal held high over their sick heads and impure bodies, NIFELHEIM delivered music unheard of since the glory days of VENOM, HELLHAMMER, BATHORY and MAYHEM. Great reviews in mags and a massive underground word of mouth got the record labels interested.

The band signed with Necropolis Records and in 1994, after having kicked out MORBID SLAUGHTER for having a girlfriend, entered STUDIO FREDMAN to record their self titled debut album. No one involved wants to talk about those sessions and the only thing known for sure is that the band is still banned from that studio. John Sweetsloot and Jon Nodtveidt from DISSECTION joined in to play guitar on the album that thoroughly crushed all competition. Keep in mind that if the scene was weak in 1990, this was a period when METAL was desecrated by atmospherical synths and flutes and crappy lyrics about walking in the woods sung by fools. NIFELHEIM made metal disgusting and dangerous again.

1996 saw the band record a VULCANO-cover for the HEADBANGER'S AGAINST DISCO 7" series as well as participate on the GUMMO soundtrack released by Polygram. The studio in which these tracks were recorded asked the band to never come back. For a while the band was joined by GOAT, but he was asked to leave the band after a dispute over an IRON MAIDEN record.

In 1997 they recorded their second album - THE DEVIL'S FORCE. Once again a devastating blow to everything wimpy in the metal scene and once again with help by John & Jon. Little is known about how the studio felt about the recordings but metal heads everywhere went nuts! NIFELHEIM was ready to conquer the world, but their label turned out to be run by an incompetent village idiot who spent his days sitting around with a string of saliva dripping from his slack jaw while blubbering to himself, instead of doing things like paying bills, so the band's plans of World domination had to be postponed.

After spending time out to write new songs, harass local record stores, record tracks for Bathory and Motorhead tributes, look for a drummer, avoid the authorities and paint the flames of hell on their Pontiac Firebird the band returned to the studio in March of the new millennium to work on their third release - SERVANTS OF DARKNESS. Their most brilliant piece of work to date sees the band keeping the NIFELHEIM disease spreading. Heavily influenced by the chaos of Brazilian death and the rigid East European Metal, influences are also drawn from NWOBHM. Naturally, without losing anything of its depraved, senseless, nihilistic NIFELHEIM-attitude.
