Album Liner Notes:

Well, here it is- it was bound to happen- the debut recorded offering from the Nick Hempton Band. That's us on the cover- looking particularly windswept and moody, don't you think? Yeah, we're always hanging around in tunnels, looking shifty. We've all got our hands in our pockets, which looks a tad suspicious if you ask me, but it does make for a poignant and emotionally charged image, no?
Usually in this space in an album's packaging, you'll find some sort of informative blurb about the music and/or the performers. Often it's a glowing review by some musical luminary or respected boffin, in which the band's artistic strengths are elaborated upon. So why didn't we put something like that here? Well, I'd love nothing more than to have the band's perceived talents magnified and eulogized by some leading figure, some paragon of musical celebrity, but sadly all the luminaries I know are rather of the low-wattage variety. A little on the dim side. And don't think they're not going to want something in return for their gushing praise. We'd have to play Careless Whispers at somebody's daughter's engagement party, or sing barbershop quartets in the nude at DownBeat's next Christmas bash. I'm not doing that again.
Alternatively, where some might use this opportunity for an outpouring of gratitude for everyone who's helped them reach this dubious position (and admittedly, I'll probably do some of that), it occurred to me to print my extensive list of personal and professional grievances. Or to release some sensitive information about those who've stood in the way of the band's meteoric rise to near-obscurity. Unfortunately, while fun, it's legally a bit iffy. Plus it might reduce the impact of those flaming bags of poo I've been leaving on their doorsteps. (you should probably leave that last bit out, Tim.)
So as you can see, I've instead decided to fill this space by crapping on about nothing.
But Nick (you might say- and frankly it's about time you started taking an interest), this is the first album! Why would you do that? Write something heartfelt and epic! Something that reflects the magnitude of the occasion!
You've got some nerve- telling me what to write in my own liner notes...
Ok, I will say that I'm thrilled to be able to present the singularly stonking talents of Art, Marco, and Dan. Individually, they're killers. Put them together onstage- teeth bared and tackle out- extraordinary. We also have a rare appearance by the enigmatic J Lategano- obviously not one afraid to put the whole package out on display. He really gives it some on But Beautiful, and if you like that, check the website for an additional track.
There you go! Nuggets of genuine information and opinion! But really what it boils down to is that if I wrote nothing here, we'd have to have more photos, and I don't think anybody wants that. And anyway, don't read the liner notes, play the album! Hope you like it! Cheers, Nick.
