This hymn was written by Father Ranald Rankin in about 1855 and is sung at Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve on Barra, South Uist and Eriskay in the Outer Hebrides. It is now part of the general 'Celtic' Christmas tradition and thus commonly sung in Ireland at Christmas time.

Niamh Varian-Barry first sang this song when she was lead singer of the Irish-American band Solas.

This is a new arrangement by Dave Flynn & the Irish Memory Orchestra made especially for this concert at the Moscow Christmas Festival.
