After weeks of work I'm proud to introduce to you my new tune „Hot Mustard“, broken down in 20 licks for you to learn, study and master.

You may not notice it at the first glimpse, but this piece was heavily influenced by dub music. Some weeks ago I visited a local dub party and while listening to the heavy 70 bpm bass groove I thought: „Wow! I really have to translate this into blues!“ And here we are ...

Composition-wise I tried to combine groovy blues parts that give you a lot of freedom with a melodic C-part in which strong harmonies force you to choose your notes wisely. For „Hot Mustard“ I also explored the whammy bar for the first time. Usually I’m a Les Paul player (and a Strat owner for a few weeks now), so it was quite a trip to check out what sounds you can achieve with this tool. One of the most fun things was to create some bottleneck style licks that you can hear in the main theme.

In this package I also included some extra stuff for you. Since I had a lot of questions about the rhythm guitar in my last package „20 Groove Busting Blues Rock Licks“, I decided to hook you up with two extra licks that break down the rhythm parts.

I also included two different backing tracks. If you want to play „Hot Mustard“ note for note in its original version, use the first one where I left out the two rhythm guitar parts and included the low octave of the main theme. If you want to mess around and create something on your own, you better go with the second one with all rhythm guitar tracks but no lead guitar.

I really hope this package gives you a lot of fun as well as something to wrap your head around. If you want to let me know what you think about it, feel free to write me a message or put your opinion in the comments. I’d love to hear from you!
