As a child growing up in Nigeria, NazB was surrounded by the music of
his native West African homeland. With members of his immediate and extended family playing instruments and singing, music was a part of his upbringing, but it wasn’t exactly a career field that was encouraged by parents in Nigeria.
His persistence and perseverance eventually gained him the nickname Nazodobas,which eventually evolved into NazB and became his rapper alias,In his early teens, he began performing at local clubs and slowly building a loyal audience. He soon sadly realized that he was unable to gain the support of his beloved parents.
“They thought I had lost my way doing music,” he says. “They wanted me
to do something better for my future.”
Thankfully, NazB persevered in his musical dreams… making it as a
songwriter and rapper was his future, and he knew it. Nigeria and
NazB’s parents, it seems, couldn’t hold him back. He made the tough
decision at 18 to leave home and make a musical name for himself
outside of his home country. NazB hit the road and eventually lived
among the street life of Mali, The Ivory Coast, Ghana, Senegal, South
Africa, Surinam and Brazil.
The independence and growing musical confidence he found on the road
were tempered with the hard life and hardships of making it on his
own. NazB always knew within that his talent and his musical vision were
destined for far better things. His struggle and his travels together
forged his style and sound.
“The many places I’ve been have influenced me,” he says. “It all
sounds different – you can hear different flavors and elements within
my music.”
Now calling Zurich, Switzerland, home, NazB is currently in the studio
putting the finishing touches on the follow-up to his 2006 debut cd,
Money in the Game, which he calls “the best musical experience of my
life.” He has Three singles hitting radio stations and the Internet
, and he was recently the most voted Coca Cola’s Music Artist for 2009 in Switzerland.
NazB has also enjoyed recent top exposure on Switzerland’s Robo Clip
SF2 Television, and on Canadian Music Television as well as TV play in
Africa. He performed his brand of international new-school hip-hop at venues in various countries such as : Nigeria, Togo, Senegal, Surinam, Germany, Netherlands, Sweden, UK, Brazil, USA and Local Switzerland clubs
As a nod to NazB’s songwriting and performing talent, he was recently
among the top 500 song contest winners on the 16th annual Billboard
song contest. NazB also had the privilege of opening the World Thai
Boxing Championships in 2007 @ Jako Arena Bamberg Germany (The Champions Club Fight Night). With a load of studio and performing credentials under his belt and his future in music wide open, NazB says he keeps going for the joy and passion he finds in his music.
“Whether I’m rapping about love or poverty, racism or religious
discrimination, or just telling the listener about something I’ve gone
through, I find freedom and inspiration in the freedom of speech. I call it rap music from my soul.”
