Twilight of the Gods: Nietzsche, Wagner, and the Idea of Decadence - Video
PUBLISHED:  Jan 19, 2017
DESCRIPTION:
Presentation delivered by Brendan Graham Dempsey and Daniel McGrew to the Yale Institute of Sacred Music (ISM) on January 18, 2017 in the Great Hall. The relationship between Friedrich Nietzsche and Richard Wagner is explored with a focus on the theology of the music, and the music of the theology.

More specifically, the presentation looks at Nietzsche's loss of faith in Christianity and, later, in Wagner, and how these experiences contributed to his personal mythology. These events are, in turn, presented for the edification of anyone attempting similar creations of new mythologies.
