Coati Mundi

LOS ANGELES, California, US
Artist / Band / Musician
Pop / Afro-beat / New Wave
Before being known as Coati Mundi (Name adopted from the animal called Coatimundi)I was known as "SugarCoated" Andy the Vibraphone player from Spanish Harlem. Since my barrio days I managed to survive in this "bad boy' by constantly changing sombreros. I Have been involved in the film and music business as a Performer, Music Producer, Composer, Arranger, Sound Designer and Actor.
I rather have been a professional basketball player but was born vertically challenged.

I was one of the founding members of theGrammy nominated musical group

and of the critically acclaimed group

Where I served as Co-Leader and Musical Director

* For the younger MySpace peeps maybe your grandparents may know about the these groups. Oh it hurts me to say that! (lol )

In between basketball games and fighting I worked in various capacities with a bunch of interesting artistic types like Tito Puente (Pictured below), Ruben Blades, Deborah Gibson, Nona Hendryx, Chrissie Hynde, Wyclef Jean, Grace Jones, Buster Poindexter, Machito, Madonna, Vernon Reid, Sly & Robbie, The Roots, MC Shan and yes the amazing Olsen Twins.

Occasionally I get to do adult type of activities like when I served as a
Music Supervisor for "54" (Miramax film).

I have performed and toured with my own ensembles doing jazz, latin, salsa-punk and various other no name genre's.One cool gig was when I served as Musical Director for the critically acclaimed "Latin Connection" concert presented by the Brooklyn Academy of Music in conjunction with the
Black Rock Coalition. It featured such artists as Vernon Reid, Nona Hendryx, Sandra Victor, Eddie Martinez, Ray Chew and Melvin Gibbs.

Another memorable presentation was at Lincoln Center's Midsummer Night Swing. I got to break the genre barriers and present a live show of Latin, Swing and Disco music. The performance sizzled thanks to the musicians and singers in the band and my talented guest artists:Cory Daye (Savannah Band), Joe Bataan and N'Dea Davenport (Brand New Heavies). I also got to display my manic gyrations and theatrical shenanigans.

I am composer and sound designer for a series of children's educational DVDs produced by Karyn Parsons ("Fresh Prince of Bel-Air") for the Sweet Blackberry Company.
