Sevens Project playing the experimental track, "How Were They Supposed To Know" live at their CD release show at Cabaret Juste Pour Rire.

This was a very interesting part of the set to witness, as it is quite an experimental track. A simple drone and drum beat, mixed with cutting in and out Stefan Schneider's vocals as he then sometimes add sporatic drum segments. The lighting effects and collective sound was really cool to see, but it seemed alot of the balcony folks just wanted to talk through it.

Matt Lederman -- guitar/keys
Vid Cousins -- guitar/keys
Stefan Schneider - drums
Ryhna Thompson -- keys/trumpet
Peter X -- bass/guitar

Sevens Project is an exciting new ensemble from the Montreal based creative production house, Moondata Productions.

Drawing from the talents of five different songwriters, the album is a unique and powerful collaboration that incorporates compositional influences from the new avant-garde, tape loops and phasing music, and cinematic sound-tracks with the drive, energy and passion of a rock band. Sevens Project has produced an organic sounding record that defies simple categorization.

The warmth of acoustic guitars, lush string ensembles, horn sections, vocal choirs and a Dixieland band are processed with the sonic edge and precision of studio manipulation. Thundering drums, jarring electronics and earsplitting guitars provide the backdrop for gorgeous arrangements and ambient treatments and playful orchestration.

At the core of Sevens Project are Moondata's own Matt Lederman, Ryhna Thompson and Peter X, with 2007 Polaris Prize winner Patrick Watson and Stefan Schneider of Bell Orchestre. The diversity of the songs is tied together by the visionary production of Vid Cousins, while the dynamic mixing skills of Amon Tobin add new depth to the compositions.

The album features additional musical contributions from a cross-section of the Montreal musical community including Jace Lasek and Olga Goreas of The Besnard Lakes; Eric San (a.k.a. Kid Koala); Pietro Amato of Torngat, as well as Canadian pianist and composer Joshua Rager.

Dark yet inviting, Sevens Project is a bold conceptual work that points in the direction where rock and experimental music walk hand in hand.
