Mike Leon Grosch is the young, gifted singer whose star began to rise during the casting for the German TV talent show “Deutschland sucht den Superstar – DSDS” (the official German Version of Simon Fuller’s successful show "Pop Idol"). Even though being the “second winner”, he soon turned out to be the “winner of the hearts” and could convince SONY BMG that such talent combined with a great personality should not just disappear again.
During the various DSDS shows, Mike convinced the public with breathtaking cover versions of music’s greatest, such as Elvis Presley (“In the ghetto”), Gary Moore ("Still got the Blues") or Frank Sinatra ("I'll get a kick out of you"). But especially his overwhelming performance of his very own inspirational figure Seal “Loves divine” – convinced people in Germany, as well as in the countries nearby, that they wanted to hear more
Born on November 2nd 1976, as the only child of a Korean nurse and a German painter – the couple soon went separate ways – he grew up with his mother, finished his high school and later worked in the mobile phone section. Still unaware of his special talent, Mike dedicated himself to various sport activities such as Boxing, Basketball and American Football. He’d always been aware of his role as a beloved son and therefore his aim was to become a good boy, his mother’s pride.
A Seal concert should become a turning point in his life. Listening to that man who had not been defeated by the scars in his life, he decided that he would like to give it a try. First, he sang in Karaoke bars and - as a favour to friends – at weddings, until he heard about the DSDS casting. Fortunately, friends could convince him to participate – the rest is history.
After the contest, Mike went on tour performing more than 60 concerts in Germany, Austria and Switzerland accompanied by his live band.
His first single “Don’t let it get you down” was released in April 2006 and immediately became No. 1 of the German Billboard Charts (No. 1 in Austria, and another no.1 in Switzerland), followed by his debut album “Absolute” in May, which went straight to No.2 and remained among the Top 20 for as long as 6 weeks (peak position in Austria: No 8; peak position in Switzerland: No 4)
His second single "Confessional" was released in August, reached Top 20 positions as well and is regularly played by numerous radio stations up to this day.
Various TV shows love to have him as a guest for he impresses people with his very authentic, powerful and physical performance, as well as his friendly and intelligent personality.
People in front of the TV, as well as professional representatives of the media are touched by Mike’s natural personality, his fairness and honesty, his mystic and powerful appearance combined with great enthousiasm and passion for music.
Music - which to him is “the only thing in life which gives you a lot without asking for anything in return” – was and will be “his first love”.
Currently, he’s busy producing his new album.
