REVIEWS:

A knock-out effort packed with 16 songs of supremely solid Power Pop. This debut twists and turns, with flat-out rockers and well done pop ballads, most of which promise velvety pop pleasure to fans of the genre. Much of the time, Mike Elgert sounds like Robin Zander, and while its tough to nail down influences, we can hear Cheap Trick, Foo Fighters, Jason Falkner and Starclock.

Featured Tracks: "Nothing To See", "Someone Took My Part", "Run Further", "Retire"

"Said Too Much" - Imagine Jellyfish or Starbelly with Robin Zander as the lead singer. That explains this track from Mike Elgert. Jangly (but not too jangly that makes it whimpy), with a killer hook that gets stuck in your head for hours. A great start for an artist that deserves to be heard a lot more of. Great stuff!

Welcome Mike Elgert, Not Lamers. Your new favorite power pop artist. Elgert bring the whole package here on "Days Gone By". First song, "She Arrives" has a vocal that recalls a most passionate Robin Zander/Cheap Trick, a bit of Off Broadway(the band), too. "Said Too Much" suddenly brings the Dwight Twilley sound. "Retire" bring the house down, has it all. Some of the material has a bluesy roots-rock feel like a mellow, but catchy Black Crowes or Lenny Kravitz song. Theres 16 songs here and on a few of them, there is a Falkner/Jellyfish influence, too. Hell, even Imperial Drag on others! Crowded House, too. The Point? The sum of all these disparate parts is just that "Days Gone By" takes chances, does not play by established convention and works up a sound that is wholly "Mike Elgert". This is one of those releases where I just have to go: "Just Listen, will ya?!". It says it better than I can. Indeed, at the end, it is the songwriting drives the album upward with a dogged persistence. A striking, lasting debut bow, Extremely Highly Recommended!

Id say that Mike Elgert deals in old school 70s pop-rock and wonder seriously if that is a put down. It isnt. With a strong slant towards the powerpop muse of Dwight Twilley, Cheap Trick but also display a love for the country-rock-blues affectations of the Black Crowes, which makes for a good mix. Elgert basically plays every sound you will hear on Days Gone By. A talented musician that the pop underground can proudly can call its own. www.powerofpop.com
