Lucy Zeng plays Chopin's Heroic Polonaise on the MHS Fazioli - Video
PUBLISHED:  Oct 29, 2011
DESCRIPTION:
Lucy Zeng plays Chopin's Heroic Polonaise op. 53 .
The polonaise is one of five national dances of Poland, which in the hands of Chopin was elevated to a full scale concert work. The dance has a typical ¾ rhythm, which can be illustrated by the sentence: "We have a fazioli". In fact, the polonaise has a traditional association with university students because it is the first dance in the Polish festival called Studniowka -- which is a dance evening held at schools and universities to mark 100 days before the commencement of exams. Lucy Zeng is playing here as part of the first University of Auckland Fazioli Series at Massey High School on 27th October, 2011.
