DESCRIPTION:
Mifune (pronounced Mee-foo-nay) is from Scowlin Owl's debut EP, 'These Strange Companions', available now from Bandcamp for £5 - http://scowlinowl.bandcamp.com or on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify...

It's a folk song about the relationship between Japan's most famous actor Toshiro Mifune and legendary film director Akira Kurosawa, with references to the film Seven Samurai. Mifune and Kurosawa's relationship was the foundation for some of the best samurai movies of all time.

Scowlin Owl is singer songwriter, guitarist & flautist Nina Lovelace, working in collaboration with various musicians to bring her story-led folk indie songwriting to life. Nina particularly likes to work with other harmony vocalists. http://www.scowlinowl.com

Nina's debut EP 'These Strange Companions' was launched in November 2013 with support from musicians Yvonne Bordon, Karina Zakri & Sally Gainsbury. Songs include:

Mifune - inspired by the relationship between actor Toshiro Miifune & director Akira Kurosawa

Message From The Psalms - inspired by the noir film Night Of The Hunter starring Robert Mitchum

These Strange Companions (featuring Karina Zakri on lead vocal) - a tale about other dimensions appearing at Abney Park Cemetery, Stoke Newington

Sugawara & The Sunflower - a song about a real life hero who sailed his boat over a tsunami wave.

Poker Alice - inspired by real-life Poker legend Alice Tubbs.

The EP also features one of Yvonne's compositions Grey as Nina likes to support other songwriters. For more of Yvonne's work check out her project the Sea Foxes.
