World-renowned session ace Michael Landau talks about some of the key features of his new signature amp. In addition to being a perfect platform for pedals, the Hot Rod DeVille ML 212 offers some killer upgrades for Hot Rod fans and tone enthusiasts alike, including premium Celestion V-Type speakers and switchable volume and boost controls.

"Thanks for checking out the amp," said Landau. "I’d like to add an important point that I didn’t cover in the video.

"In the video, I referred to Volume 1 and Volume 2 as being clean, but these two volume controls act the same way as with Blackface Fender amps. When you turn either of the volumes on this new Hot Rod DeVille past '4,' the amp starts to go naturally into that Fender 6L6 output section tube breakup that we know and love. I normally keep Volume 1 around '4,' and Volume 2 around '6.' This is where the amp sounds really good with pedals. When you add an overdrive pedal on top of the natural tube breakup that the amp has, it starts to go into that touch sensitive zone that we guitar playing 'wackos' are addicted to. I usually use a Maxon SD-9 as an overdrive pedal with this amp, but really any good sounding pedal will work. I normally leave the overdrive pedal on most of the time, and roll back the volume on the guitar to control the amount of dirt. The volume control on the amp sets the overall volume. I’ve always been very impressed by how big the 2x12 DeVille amps sound for their size, and with the Celestion V-Type speakers and power amp section upgrade, the tone is even bigger now."
