Rambling production notes for those interested:

-- The warbled VHS intro is a sample of the theme from 'Invitation to Love'—the fictional show-within-a-show soap opera from Twin Peaks.

-- All lyrics are fragmented, slightly mis-quoted, rearranged dialogue from the show.

-- Bass line mirrors the bass melody (minus pick-up notes until the saxophone solo) from Julee Cruise's "Falling." Which, of course, was later used—sans vocals—as the theme to Twin Peaks. "Oh Diane's" bass line was recorded with the sounds of the incredible 1981, Synclavier II.

-- The melody of "what we need now is magic" references the melody of "are we falling in love" from Julee Cruise's "Falling."

-- Nathaniel's wife read a short excerpt from Laura's last entry in 'The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer' by David Lynch's daughter, Jennifer Lynch, for the end of the song.
