PUBLISHED:  Dec 16, 2013
DESCRIPTION:
For your consideration - The independent, self-titled debut release of the San Francisco based, 19 piece Big Band, the PACIFIC MAMBO ORCHESTRA has been nominated in the 56th Grammy Awards for Best Tropical Latin Album (2014).

What's so special about the Pacific Mambo Orchestra?

Steffen: Hi there. My name is Steffen Kuehn and I'm the co-leader and lead trumpet player of the Pacific Mambo Orchestra. The PMO was created to move the mambo forward to the modern stage. I wanted to preserve the rich tradition and power of the Latin Big Band format. They way I got the top musicians in my area together was to offer them something very different and musically rewarding. These players wanted wanted to get involved in this project because they saw the bigger picture and the vision, and some of them actually jumped at the chance because they always wanted to have a band like this on their own. I sincerely hope you decide to become a part of this movement that is helping our music flourish.

What's so special about the Pacific Mambo Orchestra's self-titled, independent debut album?

Christian: Hello my name is Christian Tumalan and I'm the co-leader and pianist of the Pacific Mambo Orchestra. Because of my personal relationships and popularity of the music of the PMO -- and we are talking about both all original songs and original arrangements for this big band format -- I was able to count on the participation of truly great players for this release: Kenny Washington, Carlos Cascante, Willy Torres, Ray Obiedo, Karl Perazzo and Tommy Igoe.

Tommy Igoe: Hey this is Tommy Igoe and I played two (2) tracks of drums on the Pacific Mambo Orchestra's recording. It came out unbelievably great. I think you will love it. Check it out. You can even download it for free. Enjoy.

Steffen: Another unique aspect of this record is that along with my compositions and arrangements, my partner in crime Christian here, recorded, edited, mixed, arranged and performed on the album. We saved a fortune just by doing all of this in-house. The mastering we left to our friend from Puerto Rico Michael Lazarus, who turns out had a big surprise for us after the release.

What's so special about this year for the Pacific Mambo Orchestra?

Christian: This Grammy nomination is the culmination of our first national tour, one where we featured Mr. Tito Puente Jr, Marlow Rosado and Willy Torres.

Marlow Rosado: Vaya les habla Marlow Rosado y quiero felicitar a Christian y a Steffen, los directores del PMO, por un disco fabuloso, un disco que definitivamente se merece un Grammy.

Christian: We were fortunate enough to deliver our big band sound directly to the people and the response was unbelievable. Special thanks again to Mike Lazarus and especially Tim Fox and Alison Ahart Williams at Columbia Arts Management for giving us the incredible opportunity to tour.

Steffen: Christian and I ask for your consideration for our independent, self-titled debut record for Best Tropical Latin Album for these 56th Grammy Awards. We want to thank our incredible band and everybody that recorded on the record -- all 36 of you -- we send you a big thank you.

Both: THANK YOU!
