A new concept and sound for chamber music.
This quartet is fashioned after a Baroque ensemble where groups were small and players improvised.
We approach our music with a wide variety of instruments, electronics and voice. We hope you will approach our ensemble with an open mind and a passionate heart.

Mallostrings is:
Dave Samuels and Anders Åstrand: Vibes, Marimba and Percussion.
Anna Dager and Hanna Ekström from Stockholm Strings: Cello and violin.

The group was formed in December 2011, out of a chance meeting resulting in a concert in Stockholm, Sweden.
Åstrand and Samuels have performed as a duo on several occasions, using improvisation as a common expression. In joining with the two outstanding musicians Dager and Ekström, they create music that is one of its kind and something you have never heard before. It is like a sophisticated cocktail where the Swedish melancholy traditional music mix in a perfect blend with the melodic and groovy beat of the two mallet instruments.
Their repertoire is a mix of modern classical, jazz, and traditional folk music; to sum it up: anything from medieval to the latest pop, all arranged to suit Mallostrings and their unique, equilibristic style.

The fifth musician, Tomas Bolin, adds his skills to the group, creating a meditative and magic athmosphere, bringing out the essence of each instrument to a perfect unity.
