DESCRIPTION:
The Year of the French was a mini-series produced by the Raidió Teilifís Éireann in 1982. The soundtrack is significant for a couple of reasons. It was the first soundtrack that the Chieftains ever did and it was also the first time that Paddy Maloney, of The Chieftains, ever composed music from scratch.
The soundtrack is now very difficult to find and, to my knowledge, was never digitized from the master nor released on CD. In fact, I don't know if the master even still exists. I am placing these here as much to preserve the music as anything else.
I first heard the soundtrack in 1985. I've loved it ever since.
