Khachaturian 'Masquerade' Waltz - Stokowski conducts - Video
PUBLISHED:  Jul 20, 2013
DESCRIPTION:
Stokowski became one of the Chief Guest Conductors of the New York Philharmonic from 1946-50 and in that capacity made some excellent recordings for American Columbia. Among these were several 'first recordings', including Vaughan Williams's 6th Symphony and Messiaen's "L'Ascension." Khachaturian's "Masquerade" Suite also received its premiere recording from Stokowski and the NYPO in a set of 78s recorded in 1947. Cala Records reissued all of the Maestro's New York Philharmonic recordings on CD some years ago, beautifully engineered, and here from CACD0534 is the splendid "Masquerade" Waltz, played with typical Stokowskian panache.
