DESCRIPTION:
This is a video of the concert given by Nehama Patkin OAM to celebrate her 70th birthday. It was on Sunday, 21 June 2009 in the BMW Edge concert hall in Federation Square, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. BMW Edge was her favorite concert venue -- it was where she held all her Patma Music Family Concerts. Unfortunately, it was not large enough to hold all the people who wanted to attend her Memorial Concert (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8qCdHEFUOYw).

What made this different from her previous birthday concerts was this premise: "Friends and students of Nehama from over the years will display their individual talents through classical and jazz styles, opera, music theatre and dance." In Nehama's own words, "Suffice now to say I have had a fortunate life, with so MANY experiences, and STILL have - as a musician, broadcaster, television presenter, compere, scriptwriter, producer, director, lecturer, singer with guitar, composer, teacher, piano soloist with orchestras. Along the way, I have met the most AMAZING people, some of whom are here at this momentous occasion!" The emphasis of the concert was on the achievements of her former students.

Performing were Rebecca Chambers, Marissa Skovron, Rebecca Chan, Louisa Breen, Ana Mitsikas & Martin Lane, Luke Howard, Peter de Jager, Peter Hurley, Hannah Lane, Elizabeth Sellars, Tian Tian Lan, Jane Patterson & Vocal Folds 4, Winston Morrison, Sophie Weiss, the Hamer Quartet, Lucy O'Brien, Suzanne Johnston, and Jon Finlayson. The Compere was Dr. Kate Robson.

The pieces performed were written by George Gershwin ("Rhapsody in Blue"), Kate Bush ("The Man With the Child in His Eyes"), Don Black and Mark London ("To Sir With Love"), César Franck ("Sonata for Violin and Piano", 4th movement), "A Song That Goes Like This" from "Spamalot", Luke Howard ("Folksong"), Brad Mehldau ("Unrequited"), Radiohead ("Paranoid Android" transcription by Christopher O'Riley), Jean Paul Égide Martini ("Plaisir d'Amour"), Frédéric Chopin ("Nocturne in C Sharp minor" and "Minute Waltz"), Jeno Hubay ("Hejre Kati Czardas"), "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" from "Lion King" (another video of this song is at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_ZumTTgslc), "Celebration", Erno Dohnányi ("Rhapsody"), Claude Debussy ("Petit Suite", ballet movement), "The Wizard and I" from "Wicked", Maurice Ravel ("String Quartet in F major", final movement), Freddy Mercury ("A Winter's Tale"), Karl Hermann Pilney ("Unusual Happenings of a Popular Melody, Parody Variations"), Robert Schumann ("Widmung"), "Try to Remember" from "The Fantastiks", and Noel Coward ("I'll See You Again").
