Entschuldigt bitte die möglicherweise nicht so tolle Audioqualität, ich habe einfach die Kamera während der Probe mitlaufen lassen ^^
Wie üblich sind Generalproben nie 100% perfekt, (z.B. könnte der erste Teil etwas schneller gespielt sein ^^), aber ich bin mit dem Ergebnis auf diesem Video sehr zufrieden!!! Außerdem war das die allererste Probe, bei der das Ensemble ohne Ausnahme vollständig war.

Zum Stück selbst:
Ich habe "conundrum" zwischen Oktober 2009 und April 2010 komponiert. Dabei habe ich viele neue (zumindest für mich) Elemente des Komponierens ausprobiert.
Die Idee dahinter war der Versuch, so viel wie möglich an reichen Klangfarben etc. aus einem eingeschränkten Ton-/Register-/Klang-Raum (da u.a. keine tiefen Töne/Akkorde/Klänge vorhanden; eine homogene Instrumentenkombination mit gleicher Klangfarbenverwandtschaft, 7-Tonskallen/7-Tonakkorde usw.) herauszuholen.
Die Violinen sind symmetrisch im Halbkreis aufgestellt, es soll eine Art "Real Life Dolby Surround Sound"-Gefühl enstehen, wenn die melodischen Linien, Klänge usw. durch die verschiedenen Instrumente in alle möglichen Richtungskombinationen wandern (z.B. links - rechts, außen - innen, etc.).
Die 4.Violine bildet dabei ein Art Mittelpunkt, um die herum sich alles abspielt und von der so gut wie alles ausgeht.
Es war mir beim Schreiben wichtig, darauf zu achten dass der Schwierigkeitsgrad zum Spielen bei allen 7 Violinen möglichst gleichberechtigt ist. (Ich glaube, das ist mir doch gelungen *g*)
Also doch eigentlich ein ideales Stück für eine große Violinenklasse, oder? ^^

Die Uraufführung fand am Dienstag, 27.April 2010 im Joseph Haydn-Saal der Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien im Rahmen des Klassenabends der Kompositionsklasse Michael Jarrell (mein Lehrer) statt.

Please excuse the not so great audioquality, I simply left the camera running during the rehearsal
As usual dress rehearsals are never 100% perfect (e.g., the first part could be played a little faster ^^),
but I am quite happy with the result on this video!!!
Also, this was the very first rehearsal in which the ensemble was complete without anyone missing.

About the composition itself:

I have composed "conundrum" between October, 2009 and April, 2010.
I have tried out many new (at least for myself) elements of composition in this piece.

The idea behind it was the attempt to create as much rich timbres etc. as possible out of a limited tone and register space and sound space (as there also is the lack of other things as no deep tones/chords/sounds; also the ensemble builds a a homophone instrument combination with the same timbre relationship).

The violins are put up symmetrically in the semicircle, in order to create a kind of "Real Life Dolby Surround sound" feeling of the melodic lines, sounds developments etc. by the different instruments in all possible directions and combinations (e.g., on the left - on the right, outside - inside, etc.) .

Besides, the 4th violin forms a kind of centre from which everything passes around the ball and from which as good as everything is initiated.
It was important for me, while writing the piece, to pay attention that the degree of technical difficulty is almost equal to the play within all 7 violins.
Actually an ideal piece for a big violin class, right? ^^

The world premiere of this piece took place in Tuesday, 27th April, 2010 in Joseph Haydn-Saal of the University of Music and performing Arts Vienna
within the scope of the class evening of the composition class Michael Jarrell (my teacher).
