Marc Delmas: Nuit embaumée - Video
PUBLISHED:  Feb 03, 2017
DESCRIPTION:
Phillip Sear plays a late piece - literally, 'Embalmed night' - from 1929 by the French composer Marc Delmas (1885-1931).
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The French composer and writer on music Marc Delmas (1885-1931) studied at the Paris Conservatoire. In 1913, he and Marcel Dupré were tied for first prize on the first ballot of the Prix de Rome, and Saint-Saëns opted for Dupré as a 'tie-break'. Delmas wrote in many forms: opera, choral and chamber music, in particular. He used a rather conservative idiom, which is maybe why his music is little heard today. This piece was also issued, after Delmas death, in an orchestral arrangement (not by Delmas) with the English title 'Sweet evening breezes'.
